Broadband Local Integrated Services Solution for Metro

The Cisco Broadband Local Integrated Services Solutions (BLISS) for Metro Ethernet solution enables service providers to deliver data, voice, and video over simple and inexpensive Ethernet access networks. The solution delivers always-on 10/100-Mbps Ethernet connections to each user, supporting data (internet, LAN interconnect, and VPN), voice (basic and supplementary) and video (videoconferencing, video on demand, and broadcast) services. This solution is well suited for serving residential and small- and medium-sized business customers in a metropolitan area where fiber optic networks are generally available.

The highlights of the Cisco BLISS for Metro Ethernet solution are:

• Separate, interoperable transport, service, and management architectures
• Use of fiber optic technology to deliver unsurpassed bandwidth capacity to each customer
• Use of cost-effective Ethernet access to reduce equipment and operational costs within the network
• Support for multiple voice architectures (gatekeeper, SIP proxy and softswitch)

Voice Architecture Components

Voice services are delivered within the Cisco BLISS for Metro Ethernet solution through the integration of various voice architectures into the transport infrastructure. Currently, gatekeeper, SIP proxy, and softswitch architectures have been integrated within the solution for the delivery of voice services. The solutions integrate the following voice components:

• Call control: Cisco gatekeepers (Cisco 3660, Cisco 7200 Series), Cisco SIP Proxy Server, Cisco BTS 10200 Softswitch, Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch signaling controller, and partner call control products
• Trunking gateways: Cisco AS5000, Cisco MGX 8000 Series
• CPE / IADs: Cisco ATA 180 Series, 1700, 2400, 2600, 3600 series and partner CPE products

Additionally, the solution includes a variety of other network elements (billing servers, announcement servers, and messaging systems) delivered by Cisco or its partners.
