Ethernet over DOCSIS solutions

Extend your DOCSIS and hybrid-fiber coaxial (HFC) infrastructure to enter the business market with minimal investment. Migrate to a standards-based IP network and offer personalized, ubiquitous Ethernet services in different market segments. Offer simple, transparent, low cost and scalable transport options using Ethernet. Choose between two solutions or implement both:


• Network-based: The Network-based Ethernet approach standardizes provisioning and management using Cablelabs Layer 2 VPN specification. A cable modem termination system (CMTS) and aggregation router that supports bridging are required for this service. This solution typically connects geographically separate customer LAN segments.

• Customer premises equipment based: This transport-agnostic Ethernet service uses Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol. It increases time to market because it does not require CMTS provisioning. Launch services by deploying the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF)-certified Cisco integrated services router (ISR) which integrates a router and a DOCSIS cable modem, at customer premises.
