Q. What is Virtual Network Manager(VNM) in LMS 3.2 ?
A. VNM is a tool for configuring, monitoring, visualizing, and troubleshooting VRFLite deployments. In this version of the software there is no visibility to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Layer 3 VPN networks.
Q. Is there a license associated with VNM, and does an additional fee need to be paid for it?
A. VNM 1.0 is a part of LMS 3.2, and no additional license fee is required to deploy VNM. It is dependent on LMS 3.2 Common Services, Resource Manager Essentials, and Campus Manager for its functionality.
Q. Can data be upgraded from earlier CiscoWorks LMS versions to CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?
A. Yes, data migration and upgrades are supported from LMS 2.6 to LMS 3.1. Please refer to the Data Migration Guides for CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 for additional details.
Q. Is there an additional license required for the high availability or geographic redundancy options?
A. No additional license is required for the high availability or geographic redundancy options as the supported options run in an active-standby mode, where the standby server does not actively poll the network devices.
Q. Do Cisco IP phones count toward device license count?
A. No, Cisco IP phones do not get included in the LMS license count.
Q. Does LMS provide data aggregation across multiple LMS installations?
A. No, LMS does not aggregate data across multiple CiscoWorks LMS installations.
Q. Does Cisco StackWise® support count as single or multiple devices toward licensing?
A. If more than one IP address of an interface is added for manageability in CiscoWorks LMS, then it counts as multiple devices in the license count.
Q. Is CiscoWorks Health and Utilization Monitor (HUM) included in the LMS license that I purchased? Isn't it integrated with LMS on the same installation media?
A. CiscoWorks HUM is licensed separately from CiscoWorks LMS, though it is integrated in the LMS install framework.
Q. Can individual applications like Common Services, RME, Campus Manager, IPM, DFM, and so on, be bought separately?
A. CiscoWorks LMS is sold as a suite of applications, and individual components cannot be bought separately.
Installation and Compatibility
Q. What platforms support CiscoWorks LMS?
A. CiscoWorks LMS can be installed on select Windows and Solaris operating systems and versions.
Q. Can all the applications within CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 be loaded on a single server?
A. If the device count is equal to or below 5000, then all applications can be loaded into a single server. However, depending on enterprise , when deploying LMS, one might want to split it across multiple servers for certain product instances of LMS like RME, Campus, IPM, to have more memory and processor resources available for the applications.
Q. What are the system requirements for CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?

Q. Where can I get an evaluation copy ?
A. CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 evaluation copies are available from http://www.cisco.com/go/lms under featured content and are available for Windows and Solaris operating systems. The evaluation version of the software is limited to 100 devices and 90 days. It has all the features enabled in the software. Once the license is procured it can be applied to the evaluation software, which can then be used as the production server with no loss in data.
Q. Where do I get support for my evaluation version of CiscoWorks LMS?
A. CiscoWorks LMS evaluation version is not supported by Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Please get in touch with your Cisco partner or account representative should you need support.
Q. How is CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 licensed?
A. CiscoWorks LMS is sold based on device counts. A device is represented as an IP address or hostname. There are SKUs for 100, 300, 1500, 5000, and 10,000 devices. There are some restrictrions based on the number of IPSLA collectors being managed per device SKU. Please refer to the product user guides for additional details
Q. For existing deployments of CiscoWorks LMS 2.x, do I get a special discount for upgrading to CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?
A. Upgrade SKUs are available for customers who have LMS 2.x installations.
Q. Are device counts additive?
A. No, device counts are not cumulative per server. If you purchase a 100-device SKU and an additional 100-device SKU, you do not get 200 managed devices on the same server. If you have 100 devices and now want to manage 200 devices, you would need to order the conversion SKU where you pay the difference to get the next higher SKU; see Table 3 in the LMS 3.2 product bulletin for the SKU/part numbers.
Q. What is the maximum number of devices that can be managed from a single server with all CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 applications installed?
A. Cisco has certified and tested 5000 total devices with all applications installed on a single server instance.
Q. I have multiple geographic domains and administrators. Can I split the LMS licenses across multiple servers?
Q. Are software support contracts available, and how are they ordered?
A. Yes, you can purchase a 1-year Software Application Support (SAS) contract that provides Cisco Technical Assistance Center support, access to software maintenance patches on Cisco.com Software Center, and CiscoWorks LMS minor update releases.
Q. Can individual applications within CiscoWorks LMS be purchased?
A. No, these CiscoWorks LMS applications are sold only as a bundled solution.
Q. Does the CiscoWorks LMS 2.x SAS provide upgrade entitlement to the CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 release?
A. No, SAS does not cover entitlement between CiscoWorks LMS 2.x and this new major software revision.
