The Cisco® ONS 15454 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) provides a solid foundation for building service provider or enterprise optical transport networks for delivering video, voice, and data services. The Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP offers the following capabilities:
• Scalable platform supporting networks from STM-1 (155 Mbps) to STM-64 (10 Gbps) plus 32-channel DWDM capabilities
• Comprehensive multiservice interface offerings to support TDM, Ethernet, storage, and data applications needs
• Robust design to support carrier-class deployments
• Comprehensive, multilayer management capabilities enabled through the Cisco Transport Controller craft management system, Transaction Language one (TL-1) interface, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and Cisco Transport Manager element management system with northbound interfaces to network management and operational support systems.
New Features
Table 1 and Table 2 outline new hardware and software features provided by the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP Release 6.0.
Table 1. Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP 6.0 Hardware Features
Feature
Description
12-port multirate Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP)-based optics card
Flexible multirate, multiport card allows optical service port consolidation, opening up shelf slots for additional revenue-generating services.
STM-64 10-Gb SFP (XFP)-based optics cards
XFP-based STM-64 card allows a single carrier card to support multiple optical reaches, lowering sparing costs and increasing deployment and redeployment flexibility. Also, a low-cost, fixed-configuration, intra-office reach version is available.
8-port 100BASE-FX ML-Series card
Fiber-based 100-Mbps ML-Series card extends the reach of Ethernet between the Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP and the terminal equipment whether in a multiple-tenant building or remote facility.
8-Port 10/100-Mpbs Carrier Ethernet card
Carrier-class, point-to-point transport of Ethernet and Fast Ethernet services over SDH for simplified provisioning and SLA management. Utilizes standards-based general framing procedure frame mode (GFP-F) encapsulation for multiple-vendor interoperability, low-order (LO) and high-order (HO) virtual concatenation (VCAT) with link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) or contiguous concatenation (CCAT) for service scalability with circuit resiliency.
60G/5G high-order/low-order cross-connect card
Introduces VC-11 grooming and mixed VC-11/VC-12 grooming capacity while maintaining non-blocking VC-4 cross-connection capacity for the entire Cisco ONS 15454 SDH shelf.
Table 2. Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP 6.0 Software Features
Feature
Description
Bridge and roll
Allows bandwidth to be rerouted from one time slot to another time slot. Allows bandwidth "defragmentation," opening up contiguous time slots to support larger concatenated payloads.
RADIUS
Provides centralization of network-element authorization management.
Cisco Service Assurance Agent (SSA) on ML-Series cards
Cisco SSA is an application-aware synthetic operation agent that monitors network performance, especially IP service-level agreements. Performance measurement statistics provided by this feature can be used for troubleshooting, problem analysis, and for designing network topologies.
OSI interoperability
Simplifies operations in mixed data communication channel (DCC) protocol (OSI/IP) networks.
Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Software Release 6.0 features are incremental additions to the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP. Previously supported Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP hardware and software features will continue to be supported unless specified in the release notes, user documentation, or previously announced end-of-sale product bulletin.
Cisco IOS Software Release Information
The Cisco ONS 15454 ML-Series line cards, which use Cisco IOS® Software to deliver Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions, are provisioned through the Cisco IOS Software command-line interface (CLI). Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(27)SV(fc2) is integrated into Cisco ONS 15454 Software Release 6.0, enabling a single, unified software image for installation and operation. The Cisco IOS Software image is not upgradable independently from Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPP Software.
Direct software upgrades to Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Release 6.0 are supported from Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Release 4.0, 4.1, 4.6, and 5.0 if the system is presently operating with the Cisco ONS 15454 Timing, Communications, and Control Version 2-series card. For details on the upgrade procedures, please review the appropriate upgrade guide at: http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/optical/ps2006/prod_installation_guides_list.html#anchor1.
Compatibility Information
Table 3 outlines the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH system deployment requirements for hardware and software functions being announced within this bulletin.
Before inserting a new node into an operating network, all existing Cisco ONS 15454 nodes connected with active optical multiplex section-data-communication-channel (MSDCC) interfaces should be upgraded to a consistent level of system software to ensure proper operation.
