Cisco® ONS 15454 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) Release 8.5 re-introduces support for the Cisco and Cerent OC-48 intermediate reach (IR) 1310-nm high-speed slot optics cards (part numbers 15454-OC481IR1310(=) and Cerent OC48-1 IR [87-32-00002]), which reached end-of-sale on August 2, 2005. These cards are not supported in Release 8.0.
Release 8.0
Due to the memory capacity of these cards and the structure of the software image in Release 8.0, the OC-48 IR cards are not supported in Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP Release 8.0. This means that the cards will not be recognized and traffic cannot be assured. If upgrading to Release 8.0, traffic must be moved to another card prior to the upgrade. Some options are:
• If starting on a release prior to 6.0, move traffic to the Cisco OC-48/STM-16 IR/SH 1310-nm Any-Slot OC-48 Optics Card, part number 15454-OC48IR1310A(=), before upgrading to Release 8.0.
• If starting on Release 6.0 or later, move traffic to the Cisco 12-Port SFP-Based Multirate Optics Card, part number 15454-MRC-I-12(=), with an OC-48 IR Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) optics card, part number ONS-SI-2G-I1(=), before upgrading to Release 8.0.
• Another option is to move traffic to the Any-Slot OC-48 Optics Card before upgrading to Release 8.0. After upgrading to 8.0, switch to the Cisco 4-Port SFP-Based Multirate Optics Card, part number 15454-MRC-2.5G4(=), with an OC-48 IR SFP optics card.
Release 8.5
In Release 8.5, the code has been sufficiently restructured to enable support of the OC-48 IR cards. Therefore, a smooth migration to either 4-port or 12-port multirate optics cards is now possible after upgrading to Release 8.5.
