Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® SN 5428 Storage Router. The last day to order the Cisco SN 5428 Storage Router is June 30, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until May 30, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and important dates for the Cisco SN 5428, and Table 2 describes the specific part numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco MDS 9216i Multilayer Fabric Switch, which contains all the functionality available in the Cisco SN 5428 and in addition, provides higher Fibre Channel port density, higher Small Computer System Interface over IP (iSCSI) and Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) performance, hardware-based compression and encryption, virtual storage area network (VSAN) and Inter-VSAN routing. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco SN 5428 to the Cisco MDS 9216i.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco SN 5428 is the Cisco MDS 9216i. A comparison of the features available in the two products is shown in Table 3.
Customers may purchase the Cisco MDS 9216i from EMC Corporation, IBM Corporation, Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett Packard, Xiotech, and Network Appliance, all of whom are designated OSM partners, or from any of these companies' resellers. Cisco does not offer trade-in credits or a trade-in program.
