A fully assembled NEMA 4-rated wireless IP base station, which includes the Cisco® 3200 Series Router, is available to Cisco 3200 Series Advanced Technology Providers and can be purchased from ICI Networks. This packaged solution for outdoor deployment of Cisco 3200 Series routers simplifies the deployment of wireless outdoor network solutions.
As an increasing number of applications for wireless and mobile IP routing based on Cisco 3200 Series routers have arisen with public safety and transportation customers, the need for a highly ruggedized base station to support outdoor operation of the routers has become paramount to the successful deployment of wireless and mobile IP networks to support these applications. The Cisco 3200 Series Router, based on the PC-104 form factor, can be adapted to specialized installation requirements and deployed in environments for which traditional networking equipment is not suited due to size or environmental conditions. The ICI Networks Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station for the Cisco 3200 Series provides the ruggedized characteristics needed to deliver a complete outdoor wireless installation in support of stringent environmental specifications, including NEMA 4 and IP 66 (Figure 1). The Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station provides protection for harsh environmental conditions, such as moisture, dust, rain intrusion, corrosion, vandalism, and thermal/solar load.
Figure 1. The Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station for Cisco 3200 Series Routers
When enclosed in the Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station, Cisco 3200 Series routers can be deployed in outdoor environments, thereby providing a network infrastructure component that can create and interconnect broadband wireless hotspots within a Metropolitan Mobile Network architecture. For example, the Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station can be used for deployment in a metropolitanwide wireless network, where each Cisco 3200 Series wireless router is placed at, for example, each intersection to provide hotspot wireless coverage and, simultaneously, to support video surveillance and traffic monitoring at the intersection.
The Outdoor Wireless IP Base Station for Cisco 3200 Series routers offers several installation options, including pad-mounted, wall-mounted, or pole-mounted configurations, to facilitate deployment in a wide variety of rural or urban outdoor settings. Furthermore, this enclosure can support either wireless or wireline connectivity, and supports antenna and camera mounting options. Figure 2 shows some of the configuration options available with this enclosure.
