This product bulletin provides content and delivery information for Cisco® IOS® Software Release 12.3(2)JK. This release supports the Cisco 3200 4.9 GHz Wireless Mobile Interface Card (WMIC), which ships as part of the Cisco 3200 Series of wireless and mobile routers.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States has recently allocated 50 MHz of licensed bandwidth in the 4.9-GHz frequency band for public safety applications. The Cisco 3202 4.9 GHz WMIC provides integrated wireless WAN or LAN capabilities in the licensed 4.9 GHz frequency band. Designed in the same ruggedized, compact PC/104-Plus form factor as other Cisco 3200 Series interface cards, the Cisco 3202 4.9 GHz WMIC is engineered to be integrated as part of a Cisco 3200 Series router in both outdoor and vehicular environments.
As part of the Cisco 3200 Series of wireless and mobile routers, the Cisco 3200 4.9 GHz WMIC offers:
• Licensed broadband wireless access for public safety agencies in the United States
• Ability to be configured as an access point, root bridge, non-root bridge, or workgroup bridge
• Rugged design suitable for outdoor and vehicular networks
The Cisco 3200 Series, with integrated 802.11b/g and 4.9-GHz WMICs, is a primary building block of Cisco Metropolitan (Metro) Mobile Network solutions, optimized for a citywide scalable, manageable, and secure broadband wireless network. The Cisco 3200 Series in a Cisco Metro Mobile Network solution offers the benefits of a combined Layer 2 and Layer 3 (routing) architecture. With multiple integrated radios, the Cisco 3200 Series supports a meshed topology and eliminates the need for wired WAN backhaul links at every location.
As an end-to-end solution, the Cisco 3200 Series creates a broadband wireless infrastructure for public safety personnel. The Cisco 3200 Series is also deployed in vehicles to offer broadband wireless access for a network of in-vehicle devices that are in motion. Standards-based Mobile IP is used for seamless roaming across different types of wireless networks and technologies.
