Cisco 7500 Series Routers

EoS for Cisco Transaction Connection for the Cisco 7200 and 7500 Series Routers

END-OF-LIFE NOTICE, NO. 1502

INTRODUCTION

Cisco Systems® announces the End-of-Life for the Cisco Transaction Connection (CTRC) on the Cisco® 7200 and 7500 Series router platforms.

OVERVIEW

A feature of the Cisco IOS® Software, Cisco Transaction Connection (CTRC) connected TCP/IP-based Windows and UNIX desktop applications directly to DB2 and Customer Information Control System (CICS), thus eliminating gateways and proprietary host software. Improvements to DB2 and CICS that allow native access through TCP/IP networks have reduced the need for a router-based solution.

PRODUCTS AFFECTED AND SCHEDULE

CTRC will no longer be available for the Cisco 7200 and 7500 Series router platforms. The Cisco IOS Software releases affected by this announcement include Release 11.3T, 12.0, 12.0 T, and 12.1. Table 1 outlines the schedule for affected products.

SUPPORT

End of Sale refers to the time when specific products are no longer available for new purchases. Cisco will continue to support CTRC through SMARTnet® and comprehensive maintenance programs. Customers with these service contracts are entitled to free software updates and 24-hour telephone support through the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Comprehensive maintenance customers also receive onsite service. Customers who do not have a maintenance contract can purchase software updates and hardware repair services from Cisco to meet specific requirements rather than full service coverage.

MIGRATION

Cisco no longer offers an equivalent application. Customers are encouraged to migrate to native TCP/IP access to their DB2 and CICS applications.
