The Cisco Catalyst 4500 E-Series Switch is a high-performance
next-generation extension of the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Switch.
It builds on the centralized architecture of the
Catalyst 4500 Series Switch to deliver more features, flexibility, and performance
while maximizing investment protection across multiple Catalyst 4500 Series
generations.
Features of the Catalyst 4500 E-Series Switch

- Higher performance: 320 Gbps and 250 mpps
- Increased capacity: 24 Gbps per slot and double the control plane resources
- Power over Ethernet (PoE): IEEE 802.3af and PoEP (up
to 30W per port )
- IPv4 and IPv6 (in hardware): Optimization for simultaneous
IPv4/IPv6 deployment or migration
- EnergyWise: Helps increase energy efficiency for
all devices connected to the network
- Dynamic features and user configurability: Security
and quality-of-service hardware resources with 8 queues per
port
- Cisco TwinGig Converter Module: Upgrade
