EOS/EOL Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst 3508G XL Switch

PRODUCT BULLETIN NO. 2754

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® Catalyst® 3508G XL Switch. The last day to order the Cisco Catalyst 3508G XL is September 17, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until September 17, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Catalyst 3508G XL. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 3750G-12S Switch. The Catalyst 3750 Series switches improve LAN operating efficiency by combining industry-leading ease of use and the highest resiliency available for stackable switches. This product series represents the next generation in desktop switches, and features Cisco StackWise™ technology, a 32 Gbps stack interconnect that allows customers to build a unified, highly resilient switching system-one switch at a time.

The last possible date a routine failure analysis may be performed to determine the cause of product failure or defect.

End of New Service Attachment Date

For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.

End of Service Contract Renewal Date

The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.

Last Date of Support

The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

The recommended replacement for the Cisco Catalyst 3508G XL is the Cisco Catalyst 3750G-12S (Table 3). The Catalyst 3750 Series eases deployment of converged applications and adapts to changing business needs by providing configuration flexibility, support for converged network patterns, and automation of intelligent network services configurations.
