End-of-Sale And End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst OS 7.x [Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches]

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco® Catalyst® OS 7.x. The last day to order the affected product is March 1, 2007. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until February 28, 2012.

Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Milestone	Definition	Date
End-of-Life Announcement Date	The date the document that announces the end of sale and end of life of a product is distributed to the general public.	March 1, 2006
End-of-Sale Date	The last date to order the product through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms. The product is no longer for sale after this date.	March 1, 2007
Last Shipment Date	The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead time.	May 31, 2007
End of Software Maintenance Releases Date	The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software. Where available, Cisco will provide bug fixes, maintenance releases, workarounds or patches for network service impacting critical bugs reported via the TAC or Cisco.com web site until the last date of support (otherwise known as the End of Life Date). Bear in mind that it may be necessary to use a software upgrade release to correct a reported problem. Please refer to policy link on bottom of this announcement.	February 29, 2008
End of New Service Attachment Date	For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.	February 29, 2008
End of Service Contract Renewal Date	The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product.	May 30, 2011
Last Date of Support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	February 28, 2012

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

Customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco Catalyst OS Release 8.4 or later (Catalyst 6500 Series only).

The 8.x train is currently under development. Migrating to Catalyst OS Release 8.4 or later adds a rich feature set including Network Admission Control (NAC), Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD), comprehensive Identity Based Networking Services (IBNS) enhancements, Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) Snooping, Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Inspection, IP Source Guard, Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), and GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) among others. Note: Please check the release notes for supported supervisor engines. All supervisor engines are not supported with all releases.

Customers are encouraged to migrate from the Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series to the Catalyst 6500 series switches.
