Supported Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases by Server
Server Models Supported by Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases
Use Table 1 to confirm that the desired server model generation is supported by the desired release of Cisco® Unified Communications Manager (previously known as Cisco Unified CallManager), especially when planning software upgrades or hardware migrations/repurposing. If your server is not supported, you must specify or replace with a newer server if you want to run the target software release. A supported server may still require component changes such as memory expansion or hard disk replacement with larger capacities; if so, this requirement is indicated in the table.
If you are using direct HP or IBM equivalents in lieu of Cisco MCS 7800 Media Convergence Server hardware from Cisco, please visit http://www.cisco.com/go/swonly to map these equivalents to Cisco MCS 7800 model generations for lookup in the table. For example, an IBM x206 can map to multiple Cisco MCS 7800 products, depending on variants in CPU, disk, bus, etc. on the same x206 chassis, whereas an HP DL320G5 maps to a Cisco MCS 7825-H3-IPC1.
Consult with your account team and product install and upgrade guides for planning execution of a software upgrade or hardware migration or repurpose.
Model generations and part numbers on the same row are interchangeable with respect to hardware repurposing and supported software releases. They are usually but not necessarily the same hardware configuration, so pay attention to the numbered footnotes, which indicate if a model generation requires memory or hard drive changes to support the desired software release. The part number lists are not necessarily exhaustive, so if you don't see the SKU of interest, consult your account team.
Blank cells mean the server is not supported. An "X" means the server is supported. Any numbers following "X" refer to special rules outlined in footnotes after the table. Column titles refer to the version of Cisco CallManager, Cisco Unified CallManager or Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

(2) Supported, but note that Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.1 and higher requires original CPU > 2GHz, memory of minimum 2GB for MCS 7815/16/25/35, 6GB for MCS 7828 and 4GB for MCS 7845, and hard drive capacity of 72/80 GB or higher. This will result in mandatory memory and hard drive upgrades if older supported servers are desired for use with the new software versions.
(3) Note that Cisco MCS 7828 supports only Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 6.0 (new purchase), 7.0 (new purchase or upgrade from Version 6.0 or 7.0) or standalone Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.0 (for migration from Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 7.0 only, not for new Cisco Unified Communications Manager purchase).
