This document gives information on the error code reasons in Versatile Interface Processor (VIP) output.
For more information on document conventions, see the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions.
This document is useful when running Cisco IOS® software releases earlier than the following:
11.1(22)CA
11.1(21)CC
11.2(18)P
11.3(7)
11.3(7)AA
11.3(7)NA
11.3(7)T
The information in this document is based on Cisco IOS Software Release 11.2.
The information presented in this document was created from devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If you are working in a live network, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command before using it.
In VIP output, some Cisco IOS software releases include error reasons with the message itself.
For example, in the following output, 22 is the reason code:
%VIP2-1-MSG: slot4 System exception: sig=22, code=0x0, context=0x603B91E8
This table provides a list of possible SIG values and the reason for the error:
SIG Value | Error Reason |
---|---|
2 | unexpected hardware interrupt |
3 | abort due to break key |
4 | illegal opcode exception |
5 | abort due to Break Point or an arithmetic exception |
8 | floating point unit (FPU) exception |
9 | reserved exception |
10 | bus error exception |
11 | SegV exception |
20 | cache parity exception |
21 | write bus error interrupt |
22 | fatal hardware error |
23 | software-forced crash |
The following output appears when running Cisco IOS software versions later than those mentioned above:
%VIP2-1-MSG: slot4 System reloaded by a fatal hardware error %VIP2-1-MSG: slot4 caller=0x600B60C0 %VIP2-1-MSG: slot4 System exception: SIG=22, code=0x0, context=0x603B91E8
