Product Bulletin NO. 2248
Cisco IOS® Software Feature Packs for the
2600 Series Multiservice Access Routers
This Product Bulletin details changes to the sales of Cisco IOS software spare parts for Cisco 2600 Series Multiservice Access Routers. It introduces Cisco IOS Feature Packs as a replacement for the current single-release Cisco IOS Software spare parts.
Overview
To date and for the 2600 Series Multiservice Access Routers, every release of Cisco IOS software feature sets has been made available as spare parts. A Cisco IOS software spare part is shipped as a single image on CD-ROM or other removable media. They are purchased by end customers upgrading from the base feature set and by Cisco partners staging configuration of routers.
Moving forward, Cisco will migrate to a model where a Cisco IOS software spare part CD-ROM includes all current releases of the feature set. This CD-ROM will be referred to as a Cisco IOS Feature Pack and already exists for a number of feature sets. Customers only need to specify platform and feature set when ordering a Cisco IOS Feature Pack. It will no longer be necessary to specify a particular release.
The contents of the Cisco IOS Feature Packs will be updated on a quarterly basis and will include the latest four maintenance releases from all open mainline release trains and all releases from the current T-train.
Note that purchase of a Cisco IOS software feature pack includes an entitlement to deploy any release of the selected feature set, not only those included on the CD-ROM. If the desired release is not included on the CD-ROM, it can be downloaded from cisco.com or it can be obtained from your Cisco partner or customer services representative.
Also, note that only the most commonly deployed feature sets will be sold as Cisco IOS Feature Packs. Other feature sets remain available as traditional spare parts.
Contents of a Cisco IOS Feature Pack
The Cisco IOS Feature Pack consists of two deliverables:
Ordering a Cisco IOS Feature Pack requires knowledge of the desired router platform and desired feature set. There is no need to specify a particular release, the CD-ROM will include all releases available on the global pricelist.
The Software Entitlement Document
The software entitlement document is a written record of the right to operate the feature set and should be maintained in a safe place.
The CD-ROM
The CD-ROM provides a number of releases of the feature set, along the following guidelines:
The number of images on a Cisco IOS Feature Pack will vary, depending on the chosen feature set and platform. Newer feature sets or platforms will initially only have one or two images on the CD-ROM. Discontinued feature sets will only see additions from Mainline trains.
The CD-ROM contents are updated by Cisco on a quarterly basis. If the desired release is not included on the CD-ROM, customers with a valid SmartNet contract can download it from cisco.com. Customers without SmartNet contract can obtain the desired release from the Cisco partner or customer services representative.

Q & A
Q. What is a Cisco IOS Feature Pack
A. The Cisco IOS Feature Pack is a CD-ROM with all current releases of a Cisco IOS software feature set for a particular platform. The Cisco IOS Feature Pack consists of two deliverables:
Q. What does it replace?
A. One Cisco IOS Feature Pack replaces several traditional Cisco IOS software spare parts on our price list. Traditional Cisco IOS spare parts include a single release of a feature set while the feature pack includes all current releases of the feature set.
Q. Do I have less choice after the introduction of Cisco IOS Feature Packs?
A. No. The global pricelist and the dynamic configuration tool includes at least the four latest maintenance releases of each Mainline release train, all releases of the current T-train and all special releases not yet collapsed into the T-train. The Cisco IOS Feature Pack will be updated on a quarterly basis to contain the releases. If the desired release is not included on the CD-ROM, it can be downloaded from cisco.com or it can be obtained from your Cisco partner or customer services representative.
Q. Why is my particular feature set not available as a Cisco IOS Feature Pack
A. Only the most commonly deployed feature sets will be sold as Cisco IOS Feature Packs. Other feature sets remain available as traditional software spare parts.
Q. Which releases are included in a Cisco IOS Feature Pack
A. The Cisco IOS Feature Pack will be updated on a quarterly basis to include the four latest maintenance releases of each Mainline release train, all releases of the current T-train and all special releases not yet collapsed into the T-train. If the desired release is not included on the CD-ROM, it can be downloaded from cisco.com or it can be obtained from your Cisco partner or customer services representative.
Q. My Cisco IOS Feature Pack appears to miss the image I need, what do I do?
A. Purchase of a Cisco IOS software feature pack includes an entitlement to deploy any release of the selected feature set, not only those included on the CD-ROM. If the desired release is not included on the CD-ROM, it can be downloaded from cisco.com or it can be obtained from your Cisco partner or customer services representative.
