This document describes how to upgrade your RISC router 3000E from v1.1.3 and earlier.
Upgrading Your RISC Router 3000E from v1.1.3 and Earlier
In order to upgrade a RISC Router 3000E running a software version prior to 1.2 (1.1.3 or earlier or ROM Downloader), the RISC Router's programmable internal memory structure must be reconfigured to be able to accept the new version of the software. This is done through the use of an intermediate software download. Please follow these instructions to upgrade your RISC Router 3000E router(s) running version 1.1.3 or earlier, to version 1.2 or later.
-
Download the latest RISC Router 3000E general release v4.0.2 and the RR3000INTERMEDIATE download file.
-
Use the CompatiView v4.8.7 to back up your present router configuration. Launch CommpatiView and choose Add Router from the Administration menu. Select Export to File from the Configuration menu. A file dialog will appear. Pick a folder to save the router's current configuration. This ensures that you have a working configuration file on hand should you need it. A router whose FLASH ROM has been erased or a router that is running from ROM, does not have usable configuration parameters that require backup. If this is the case, this step can be skipped.
Note: Configuration files save from the RISC Router Manager are NOT compatible with CompatiView. If you are upgrading software, use CompatiView v4.8.7 to save configuration parameters with the Export to File option.
-
Use the RISC Router Manager v3.x or CompatiView v4.8.7 to send the INTERMEDIATE download to your router. Under the Administer menu, select Choose Router. Select the appropriate router to download and enter the password. You will now have the Runtime Status window open. Under the Administer menu, select the Download Software. A file dialog will appear. Find the RR3000INTERMEDIATE download file, and send it to the router. The router will automatically restart. Note: The manager's file dialog will not allow you to select version 1.2 or later software downloads until the router you are logged into has first been loaded with the INTERMEDIATE download.
Note: If you are using a Mac that is connected to Ethernet, you may encounter problems getting the software download to complete successfully. If this is the case, switch over to one of the LocalTalk ports and repeat step 3. The test switch must be set to position 0 in order to allow proper use of the LocalTalk-A port.
-
Use CompatiView v4.8.7 to download the latest software release to your router. Once the router has restarted with the INTERMEDIATE download running, log into it with CompatiView then select Download Software... from the Administration menu. CompatiView will prompt you to select the appropriate router to download and file dialog will appear. Find the release version of software, and download it to the router. Once the router has restarted, the new version's features will be available to you and managable with CompatiView v4.8.7.
