More Information
Be careful when you upgrade from 3.x code to 4.x code. The router configuration is stored differently in the two versions and you can run into problems until it is saved as the right type. 3.x code uses binary configuration files while 4.x code uses text configuration files. When you upgrade to 4.x code from 3.x code, the router must convert the configuration. It does not do this automatically. After the upgrade, you need to connect up to the device using CompatiVeiw, telnet, or console and accept it when the device asks if you wish to convert the file. Once you hit yes, save that configuration to the device.
If you do not convert the configuration, you can have intermittent connections and strange behavior on the device until the configuration is converted.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you save your configuration as a text file before you proceed with the upgrade. If all goes wrong, you can erase the binary configuration entirely and just upload your saved text configuration directly to the device.
It is also HIGHLY recommended that you make this upgrade while you are on-site. Just in case you need to erase the configuration and use your saved text configuration.
