Introduction

This document describes the LED indicator status on the VCO/4K and VCO/20. In particular, it points out that it is normal behavior for one power supply to display a red LED when the VCO/4K chassis is empty. This behavior is applicable on both AC and DC power supplies. The DC power supply could be either a single -48 VDC feed to the switch chassis, or two individual -48 VDC feeds, where one powers each supply separately.

LED Indicator Status

On the front, upper left side of the power supply module of the VCO/4K or VCO/20, there is an Indicator LED. When illuminated, it is either green or red. In a normal situation, when cards are installed, the LED indicates these conditions:

  • Green—Power is on and operation is normal.

  • Red—Voltage failure, although the interlock switch is closed and the power is on.

    Red could also indicate that you have failed to install the external jumper that is needed for single-line-feed DC operation.

  • Off or glowing a faint red (reduced illumination)—The interlock switch is open (power to the module is turned off).

Indicator Status When No Control or Interface Cards Are Installed

In certain cases, power is applied to a VCO/4K or VCO/20 chassis with dual power supplies installed and no control or interface cards installed. One of the power supplies will display a red LED indication while the other will display a green LED. This is normal for a chassis with no other cards inserted.

To observe proper indications (both power supplies display a green LED) insert at least one card into the chassis. Then, when power is applied, both power supplies should display a green LED (normal indication). This scenarios is most likely to occur when a VCO/4K or VCO/20 chassis is replaced—but has not yet had its cards installed—and power is applied to it.
