Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(8a)EW on the Catalyst 4000 Supervisor Engine III

Introduction

This product bulletin outlines the hardware and software features supported in Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.1(8a)EW on the Catalyst 4000 Supervisor Engine III. Software Release 12.1(8a)EW is the first release of IOS for the new switch engine which supports non-blocking Layer2/3/4 switching with enhanced control. Release 12.1(8a)EW is derived from the IOS 12.1E train. Release 12.1(8a)EW is only supported on the Catalyst 4000 Supervisor Engine III. It does not run on the Catalyst 4000 Supervisor Engine I or II and it does not run on any other switching or routing platforms.

The release 12.1(8a)EW supports software features as detailed in the release notes and configuration guide. These include IP CEF routing (48 million pps), IP static routing, IP routing protocols (OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP, RIP, RIP2, BGP4), 802.1p, 802.1q and ISL, spanning tree enhancements, port aggregration (EtherChannel), CDP, security and management features (ACLs, TACACS, RADIUS, SPAN, MIBs), multicast features (PIM sparse and dense, CGMP, IGMP, SSM, MBGP, MSDP), quality of service features (classification, rewriting, policing, marking, shaping and sharing, strict priority queuing.
