Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX1 for Supervisor Engine 720 for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch and Cisco 7600 Series Router
Use this publication if you plan to implement the Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 for the Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series Switch or the Cisco 7600 Series Router.
Only the Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 supports Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(14)SX1.
Hardware Features
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX1 supports all modules that the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX supported and also supports some service modules.
Table 1 lists the service modules now supported with the Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX1. All modules below are supported with any version of software on the module with the exception of the Content Switching Module (CSM). The CSM requires a minimum software image of 3.1(4).

| WS-SVC-NAM-1 and WS-SVC-NAM-2 |
Network Analysis Module (NAM-1 and NAM-2)—Application-level visibility in the network infrastructure for real-time traffic analysis, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. The new fabric-enabled NAM-1 and NAM-2 provide greater monitoring capacity for gigabit networks and offer embedded Web-based Traffic Analyzer for traffic monitoring.

Intrusion Detection System Module (IDSM-2)—Designed specifically to address switched environments by integrating the IDS function directly into the switch and taking traffic off the switch backplane, thus bringing both switching and security function into the same chassis.

Firewall Services Module (FWSM)—A high-speed, integrated firewall module for Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series switches and Cisco 7600 Series routers that provides the fastest firewall data rates in the industry: 5-Gbps throughput, 100,000 CPS, and 1M concurrent connections. Up to four FWSMs can be installed in a single chassis providing scalability to 20-Gbps per chassis. Based on Cisco PIX® Firewall technology, the FWSM provides large enterprises and service providers with superior security, reliability, and performance.

Cisco Content Switching Module (CSM)—With a full set of Layers 4-7 features, the CSM integrates advanced content switching into the Catalyst 6500 Series to provide high-performance, high-availability load balancing of firewalls, web servers, caches and other network devices. **The CSM requires a minimum software image of 3.1(4) in order to interoperate with the Supervisor 720.

Software Features
There are no new software features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX1.
Orderable Software Images
Table 2 lists the software versions and applicable ordering information for the Cisco Supervisor Engine 720 for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 series. Cisco IOS Software runs on the DFC to provide distributed Cisco Express Forwarding support. This image is bundled as part of the Supervisor Engine 720 image and is not released separately.
Caution: Always back up the switch configuration file to a Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server or Flash device before upgrading or downgrading the switch software to avoid losing all or part of the configuration stored in NVRAM. When downgrading switch software, the configuration will be lost.
