Q. How can I check if the Linksys router is working properly when connected to a hub/switch?

A.

To verify if the Linksys router is working properly when connected to a hub or switch, follow the instructions below.

Checking the LEDs

Make sure the LEDs on the hub or switch corresponds to the port where the router is lit.

Pinging a Website

Using a computer connected to the router, perform a ping test to check if the computer can go online.

Making sure the Computer can Access another PC on the Network

If network sharing is configured on the network, check if the computer connected to the router can access or ping the other computer connected to the hub or switch.

Making sure the right Ethernet cable to use to connect 2 devices

1. Ethernet Cross cable is always used to connect between both same type devices. For example: Pc to Pc, hub to hub or switch to switch.

2. Ethernet Straight through cable is used to connect between difference devices: For example:

·         Connect a computer to a switch/hub's normal port

·         Connect a computer to a cable/DSL modem's LAN port

·         Connect a router's WAN port to a cable/DSL modem's LAN port

·         Connect a router's LAN port to a switch/hub's uplink port (normally used for expanding network)

·         Connect 2 switches/hubs with one of the switch/hub using an uplink port and the other one using normal port
