Cisco clarifies that:
The CRS-1 16 slot line-card and fabric-card chassis can be tipped and rested on its side (not front, nor rear) only if needed in order to get through low doorways or overcome other height restrictions encountered when you transport the chassis to the installation point.
If you need to move the chassis on its side, it is recommended that you move the chassis in the "As Shipped" condition, specified by the manuals listed in the Introduction section of this document. In other words, there should be neither added hardware nor power shelves installed during this move.
The CRS-1 16 slot line-card and fabric-card chassis can be tilted either front-to-rear or side-to-side, but not rested, during transport in order to get through low height restrictions.
Support the chassis properly and safely in order to protect both equipment and movers.
Cisco does not provide step-by-step tilting instructions nor instructions on the move itself, since the condition and environment of each site can be very different. It is recommended that you conduct the appropriate planning of the move in advance of the installation. Refer to the site planning guide referenced in the Introduction section of this document for more information.
If the CRS-16 chassis needs to be lifted via a crane or other lifting mechanism, attachment points such as the M10 bolt-holes present on the chassis should not be used. These are not designed for lifting purposes. Place the chassis on or in an appropriately specified mechanism which has the necessary lifting points to which the crane or lifting mechanism can be attached. Additional connections can be made to the movement handles on the left and right-hand sides of the chassis in order to help provide vertical stability but these must not be the primary load bearing elements.
Ideally, consult with the crane operating company since they are the best resource you can use in order to advise you on what solution to use.
Cisco recommends the use of professional movers or riggers in order to accomplish these tasks because professional movers are best equipped with the appropriate tools and are well versed in the correct safety practices.
