Frame Relay is a high-performance, packet-switched protocol that operates at the physical and data link layers of the OSI reference model over DS0-DS3 WAN links using connection-orientated virtual circuits (VCs). The Cisco Frame Relay implementation is platform-independent functionality for Cisco routers, including the Cisco 1700, 2600, 3600, 3700, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7500, and 12000 Series Routers, in the following network applications: router as a CPE platform, Edge Aggregation of FR links, and FR Switching. The Cisco Frame Relay implementation adheres to standards from the Frame Relay Forum (now a part of the MPLS Forum), ITU-T, and IETF. |
