Introduction

This article is one in a series to assist in the setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco Small Business products (formerly Linksys Business Series).

Q. How do I access the Linksys Wireless-G VPN router's web-based setup page using Mac?

A.

All Linksys routers have built-in web-based setup pages that allow the user to customize settings and set up advanced properties.

Note: Before accessing the router's web-based setup page, make sure the router is powered on and the computer is wired to one of the Ethernet ports on the router (1, 2, 3 or 4).

Accessing the Router's Web-Based Setup Page

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Safari.

Step 2:
On the address bar enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Return].

Note: If the IP address of the router has been changed, type the router's IP address in the address bar instead.

The router's IP address can be changed by:

  • Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.

If you forgot the router's IP address you can:

  • Check the router's IP address.
  • Press the Reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.

Note: This procedure will reset your router to factory defaults. Any settings on the router will be erased. The router's IP address will be "192.168.1.1" and the username and password will be "admin" after resetting.

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a Name and Password, type "admin" (this is the default user name and password), then click Log In.

Note: If the user name and password of the router has been changed, type the router's new user name and password on both fields instead.
