Q. What causes the connection on the switch to be unstable?



A. Here are possible causes of intermittent connections:

  • loose or defective power adaptor

  • cabling problems

  • defective switch ports

Q. How do I troubleshoot an intermittent connection?



A. Here are some ways you can troubleshoot unstable connections:

  • use known working cables

  • make sure that the power adaptor is connected properly or use another 100-240v 0.5A power adaptor

  • upgrade the firmware of the switch

Complete these steps:

  1. Download the latest firmware from the Cisco Support website to your desktop.

  2. Accessed the switch's web interface via http://192.168.1.254 (this assumes that the switch is on default settings).

  3. On the login screen, enter admin on the username field and leave the password blank.

  4. Once logged in, go to Admin>HTTP Upgrade. Browse for the firmware file then click on Proceed.

Note: A TFTP Server Software is required for the following procedures. Please refer to the software's guide or developer for its proper configuration.

  1. Download the latest firmware from the Cisco Support website to your desktop.

  2. Access the switch web interface via http://192.168.1.254 (this assumes that the switch is on default settings).

  3. On the login screen, enter admin on the Username field and leave the password blank.

  4. Once logged in, go to Admin > Firmware Upgrade.

  5. Click Upgrade, and choose Software Image for the File Type.

  6. In the TFTP Server field, enter the IP address of the computer that runs the TFTP software.

  7. Leave the Source File field blank, and type the file name of the firmware on the Destination File.

  8. Click Proceed.
