Problem Description
When upgrading the Catalyst 5000 Supervisor software, the Token Ring configuration on the Supervisor may be corrupted or lost. This does not affect data integrity, but loss of configuration will cause communication failures.
The Token Ring configuration in the RSM module is not affected by this problem.
Background
When upgrading Catalyst Supervisor software releases 4.5 or 5.x to later software versions, the configuration of the Token Ring environment may be corrupted or deleted. The table below defines the releases that display the symptoms of this problem.

Problem Symptoms
Corruption or loss of existing token ring configuration. Loss of connectivity from and to token ring devices connected to the Catalyst 5000 undergoing the upgrade.
Workaround/Solution
The workaround for this problem is to save the configuration, prior to the software upgrade, on the Flash card or ono a locally-attached TFTP server. Once the upgrade has been completed, clear the remaining configuration, then re-load the original configuration.
