cat4000.5-4-2.bin |
Catalyst 4000 software release 5.4(2) |
Problem Description
When enabling HTTP server on a Catalyst 4000, some of the configuration may be lost after the second reset performed to upgrade OS to 5.4(2).
Problem Symptoms
The error message shown below indicates that on the next system reset the switch **WILL** lose its global block configuration.
2000 May 18 12:36:32 %SYS-4-NVLOG:check_block_and_log:Block 0 checksum failed: 0xFC43(0xFC44)
Background
HTTP server has to be enabled if a customer wants CiscoView to access the Catalyst 4000 switch. When a customer upgrades a Catalyst 4000 switch that previously had HTTP enabled to cat4000.5-4-2, and then issues a set ip http server enable command, the command will direct write to NVRAM causing inconsistency in the block checksum output. This block checksum error could cause potential loss of configuration after the switch has reset.
Workaround/Solution
Catalyst 4000 software releases 5.4(3) and higher do not have this problem.
Workaround while using Catalyst OS 5.4(2):
During bootup, set the HTTP server state to disable, regardless of the HTTP server state in the NVRAM.
Example: set ip http server disable
After the switch resets (part of the Catalyst OS upgrade process), only enable HTTP server if CiscoView needs access to that switch.
