Gareth has over 25 years of networking industry experience gained with many leading companies, including Xerox, 3Com and, for the last 11 years, Cisco Systems, where he works as a Consulting Systems Engineer with in European Data Centre team. He has been involved in the design of both large scale Ethernet LANs and Fibre Channel Fabrics in his career and more recently has been focusing of the issues of unifying the networks and fabrics within data centres based on converged Ethernet and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technologies. Gareth has a BSc in Computer Science and is a Chartered IT Professional (CITP).
Presentation Title: New Developments in Unified I/O & Transport for the Data Centre
Synopsis: This presentation looks and new and emerging technologies such as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Data Centre Ethernet (DCE) that together will enable the unification of Local Area Networks and Storage Area fabrics within the Data Centre. These technologies provide the potential to help drive down both capital and operational expenditure within the Data Centre and can help deliver higher levels of power efficiency by allowing different networks to be combined in the unified environment for server and storage connectivity.
