2. HOW TO ENTER. Online submissions only. Here’s how to enter.

Create a video about why you are excited about IT (“Video”). Refer to Rules 3 and 4 below for more details regarding the requirements for your Video. Enter your Video in the Contest during the Submission Period (defined above) by following the four (4) step entry process below.

Contestants may, at their election, choose to compete as a team of no more than three (3) people (a “Team”). The Entry Form must list all Team members and designate one (1) Team Representative to accept delivery of any prize on behalf of the group. Every Team member must complete and sign the Entry Form. All Team members must be eligible for the same Category (e.g., all must be currently enrolled in high school).

IMPORTANT: You must complete all of the following steps in order to ensure your Video is submitted into the Contest:

Step One – Download Entry Form and get your Video Forms: Starting April 2, 2009 through the end of the Submission Period, go to www.cisco.com/go/netacad/videocontest (“Contest Site”) and download the Contest Entry Form and any release forms (“Video Forms”) from the Contest Site that you may need to have completed for your Video.

Note: It is highly recommended that you have all Video Forms filled out before you submit your Video. You will need to send in original signatures on all Video Forms at Sponsor’s request. The Video Forms include a Publicity Release and Location Release.

Step Three – Submit your Entry Form: Complete the Entry Form, providing all information requested including your YouTube Username (or the YouTube Username of your Team Representative) and Video URL, and agree to these Official Rules. Be sure to designate for which Category your Video will be submitted: High School, College or Alumni.

The Entry Form and your Video are collectively your “Submission.”

Sponsor’s clock is the official time keeping device for this Contest. Submissions must be received by the date and time listed above to qualify. No hand, mail or e-mail deliveries will be accepted.

Step Four – Confirmation of Entry:

  • Once you upload your Video, it will be reviewed to ensure that your Submission complies with these Official Rules. Please note that at this point your Submission is undergoing review, and is not yet considered a valid Entry into the Contest.
  • Once your Video is reviewed, you will receive a Confirmation Email at the email address you supplied on the Entry Form. If your Video complies with all Official Rules, the Confirmation Email will state that your Submission has been accepted as an Approved Entry into the Contest. If your Video is not accepted as an Approved Entry, the Confirmation Email will detail the reasons why your Video was declined.
Submissions that do not include all required information and do not adhere to the foregoing and following requirements will be considered void and will not be considered in the judging of this Contest. Each Contestant is allowed a maximum of one (1) Approved Entry in the Contest. An Approved Entry is defined as a Video that has been submitted through the process above in conjunction with the required registration information and Forms, and has received a corresponding Confirmation Email stating that the Video has been accepted into the Contest.
None of the Contest Entities are responsible for late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, void, corrupted, garbled, illegible, and/or unintelligible Submissions, or for any problems, bugs or malfunctions Contestants may encounter when submitting their Submissions. Only complete valid Submissions will be accepted. Sponsor will not verify receipt of Submissions. Incomplete, garbled, corrupted or otherwise illegible Submissions are void and will not be accepted. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify false Submissions or Submissions suspected of being false. Except as otherwise expressly stated in these Official Rules, all Submissions, once made, become the sole property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a Selected Contestant, the Selected Contestant will be deemed to be the person in whose name the e-mail account governing the e-mail address included in the registration process was opened.

If the Likeness of a minor is included, such grant of rights must include written permission from the minor’s parent or legal guardian authorizing the use of the minor’s likeness on behalf of the minor. Sponsor’s determination as to whether the Submission potentially violates the rights of any third party is final.

By uploading a Submission, Contestant irrevocably grants Sponsor and its affiliates, legal representatives, assigns, agents and licensees, the unconditional and perpetual right and permission, royalty-free, to reproduce, encode, store, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, exhibit and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used), the Contestant’s Submission, including, but not limited to, the recording and the performances contained therein (in each case, as submitted or as edited/modified in any way by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion), as well as to use Contestant’s Likeness, and/or statements regarding his/her participation in this Contest (with or without using the Contestant's name) in any and all media without limitation as to time or territory, and without additional compensation or approval from the Contestant or any other party. 5. JUDGING AND NOTIFICATION. All Submissions will be prescreened to insure they comply with the Official Rules and meet with Sponsor’s general standards and practices prior to any judging ("Qualified Submissions"). Judging will be completed in two (2) rounds. In the event of a tie, Sponsor may conduct additional rounds of judging, as provided in this section, in order to determine one (1) overall Selected Contestant per prize.

  • a. Judging Criteria (Round One). Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges against other Submissions in the same Category (High School, College or Alumni) using the same criteria.
  • i. Professional Judging (100 points total):
  • 1. Content (25 points): Is the message engaging and appropriate to the theme of the contest?
  • 2. Creativity (25 points): Is the idea shared innovative and creative?
  • 3. Craftsmanship (25 points): Is the use of technology effective and used appropriately to get the message across to the audience?
  • 4. Effect/Technical Merit (25 points): Was the overall effect achieved in communicating to the audience?

The Videos with the five highest scores achieved in each Category will be declared the potential Finalist Videos for each Category, and will move on to Round Two. Sponsor may select Alternate Finalists Videos for consideration in the event a selected Finalist Video cannot proceed to Round Two for any reason, as detailed below.

  • b. Popular Vote (Round Two).

During the Popular Voting Period (defined above), individuals may comment on and vote for their favorite Finalist Videos posted at the following URLs:

  • High School: http://www.youtube.com/group/cnavideoshs
  • College: http://www.youtube.com/group/cnavideoscollege
  • Alumni: http://www.youtube.com/group/cnavideosalumni

Anyone may vote, but comments will be screened for appropriateness by Sponsor personnel and at Sponsor’s sole discretion added or deleted. Individuals may vote only once per Finalist Video and in the event that any individual has voted more than once, this may result in the Finalist Video being removed at the sole discretion of Sponsor. Individuals will be able to vote on a scale of one (1) to five (5) stars per Finalist Video, and once a vote has been submitted, it cannot be changed.

The Contestants/Teams with the Finalist Videos with three highest average popular vote scores achieved in each Category will be declared, in descending order of score, the potential First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize winners (“Selected Contestants”) for each Category.

c. Tie-Breaker Round. In the event of a tie score, tie-breaking criteria will be applied as follows, comparing respective scores in each criterion below in succession with the Qualified Submission with the higher score winning, or continuing down the list if the Qualified Submissions are still tied after reviewing the respective criterion scores:

  • i. Overall professional judging score; then
  • ii. score for Content; then
  • iii. score for Craftsmanship

  • d. Notification of Selected Contestant. Each Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant will be required to respond (as directed) to the phone and/or e-mail notification within 72 hours of attempted notification. The failure to respond timely to the notification may result in forfeiture of the prize; and, in such case, Sponsor may choose the next highest scoring Qualifying Submission first from the Alternate Selected Contestants and then among the remaining eligible submissions as necessary. The Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant will also be sent an affidavit of eligibility / liability / publicity release (“Release”). Unless restricted by law, Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant (or his or her parent or guardian if Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant is a minor) will be required to complete and return the Release within the time period specified therein, as well as any additional Publicity Releases or other documentation required by Sponsor. Should Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant (or his or her parent or guardian if Selected Contestant or Alternate Selected Contestant is a minor) be unwilling or otherwise unable to provide such permissions and or releases or otherwise cannot accept or receive the prize for any reason, a Contestant with the next highest score may be chosen from the remaining entries until one who is able to meet all requirements can be selected. Each Selected Contestant’s full name, hometown and score may be announced and posted on the www.cisco.com and any Contest affiliated web sites.
