Die Bootreihenfolge der RF-Linecard weist die folgenden Schritte auf:
ROM Monitor (ROMmon) lädt Boot Helper auf der Linecard.
Boot Helper sendet die Software-Versionsnummer und den Kartentyp.
Die PRE lädt das dem Kartentyp entsprechende Bild herunter.
Das Cisco IOS Software-Image wird dekomprimiert und ausgeführt.
Die Barium-Schnittstelle ist so eingerichtet, dass Daten an die PRE weitergeleitet werden können.

Der Boothelper sendet weiterhin die Softwareversionsnummer und den Kartentyp als Keepalive-Keepalive-Verbindung. Wenn der Mikrocode auf der PRE aktualisiert wird, wird der neue Mikrocode heruntergeladen, und das Upgrade wird automatisch durchgeführt.
