Cisco Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) software provides a graphical user interface for the creation, modification, and execution of signaling connections, trunks, trunk groups, routes, and dial plans.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Cisco® Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) software enables network administrators to centrally configure, update, and manage voice services in complex networks using the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch device. Through an easy-to-use graphical user interface, Cisco VSPT helps ensure network wide consistency when managing voice services like dial plans, signaling connections, and routes, as well as single trunks and groups of trunks. It allows operators to increase their productivity by importing existing configurations, modifying them offline, and redeploying the updates to the device or to other devices. In a single operation, Cisco VSPT can generate the initial or iterative network provisioning information in bulk for newly installed nodes. The software also supports the provisioning of individual call parameters and can automatically generate deployment scripts that simplify the provisioning of large, live networks. Operator tasks such as trunk group provisioning are simplified by the Cisco VSPT user interface, tailored to efficiently configure voice networks.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Table 1 lists provisioning and configuration features of Cisco VSPT software, and Table 2 describes its user access and performance features.
Table 1. Provisioning and Configuration Features
Feature |
Benefit and Application |
Graphical User Interface |
Pop-up menus and a simplified GUI provide an alternative to command-line provisioning while helping reduce training time and operator input errors |
Syntax Checking |
Reduces errors from typos and incorrect data entry |
Workflow Wizards |
Intelligent input workflow simplifies the provisioning process for inexperienced operators |
Online/Offline Operation |
Enabling incremental and bulk provisioning to be done in real time and bulk provisioning to be staged offline increases flexibility and speeds turnup time by allowing dial plans, trunk groups, and signaling links to be provisioned in advance |
Control Features |
Convenient control area makes turning components active or inactive easy for more efficient provisioning operations |
Script Viewer |
Ability to view and modify scripts before transmission helps ensure accuracy and consistency |
Incremental Provisioning |
Setting only values that have changed speeds configuration updates |
BAMS Audit |
Synchronization checks for Cisco Billing and Measurements Server (BAMS) and Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch databases help ensure proper creation of billing records |
Table 2. User Access and Performance
Feature |
Benefit and Application |
Access Control |
Templates that define user access parameters based on a user’s group or functional needs simplifies overall access control and ensures consistent deployments |
Secure Launching |
Cisco VSPT operates in standalone mode, on the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch, or on the Cisco MGC Node Manager Server—in this last case it is launched from the Call agent or MGC node icon and preserves the operator’s access privileges |
PRODUCT ARCHITECTURE
Cisco VSPT is a Sun Solaris application, written in Java, that uses an X terminal standard workstation display. Cisco VSPT has no specific configuration database and operates under the “network is the primary” concept. This means that it requires very little administration and always pulls the latest configuration and provisioning information from the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch it is connected to. These configurations may be stored on Cisco VSPT for offline updating and later redeployed to the switch.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
Table 4 presents the product specifications for Cisco VSPT.
Table 4. Product Specifications
Product Compatibility |
Tested compatible with Reflection X and also supports Hummingbird Exceed X Windows emulation |
Software Compatibility |
Supports coresident operation with: · Cisco VSPT and Cisco MGC Node Manager installed on a network management server (recommended) · Cisco VSPT installed on a Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch host machine and Cisco MGC Node Manager software installed on a network management server · Cisco VSPT and Cisco MGC Node Manager installed on separate network management servers · Cisco VSPT installed on a Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch host machine or on a standalone server |
Protocols |
FTP, command-line interface (CLI), Cisco PGW MML (Man-Machine Language) |
Components |
Single TAR file downloaded from Cisco Software Center |
Connectivity |
Cisco VSPT requires a TCP/IP network connection to the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch and Cisco BAMS with no minimum bandwidth requirement, although connections under 128 Kbps may slow the provisioning process for fully loaded switch configurations |
Function |
Configuration management and infrastructure provisioning |
SYSTEM CAPACITY
Cisco VSPT connects with a single Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch/Cisco BAMS node, so there are no capacity issues to consider. Multiple users can access Cisco VSPT simultaneously using an X terminal connection. To ensure adequate response times when allowing large numbers of X terminal users access to Cisco VSPT it may be necessary to increase the computing capacity of the Sun platform.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
System requirements for Cisco VSPT are listed in Table 5.
