Cisco Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE

Figure 1.

The Cisco Catalyst 8200 Series Edge uCPE (Universal Customer Premises Equipment)

The gateway to your intent-based WAN network is here

The Cisco Catalyst 8200 Series Edge uCPE (universal Customer Premises Equipment) is designed for branch virtualization, allowing consolidation of network and security functions, simplify network management, and reduce truck rolls for delivery of add-on services.

With eight x86 CPU cores with hardware acceleration for IPsec crypto traffic, the Catalyst 8200 uCPE enables branches to run multiple VNFs.

Along with a higher number of WAN ports, the platform includes one NIM slot for additional WAN and LAN modules as well as a PIM slot for Wireless WAN modules for LTE Advanced and LTE Advanced Pro capabilities.

Description

C8200-UCPE-1N8

Catalyst 8200-Edge uCPE platform with 1 NIM and 1 PIM slot, 8-core Intel, 16G DRAM default

The Cisco Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE Platform must be ordered with a mandatory Cisco DNA subscription license along with the chassis for running Cisco Catalyst 8000V as the routing VNF in either traditional routing or SD-WAN mode.

This ordering guide will take you through the steps of ordering the hardware platforms and the Cisco DNA subscriptions.

Ordering Cisco Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE Platforms

Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE platform with mandatory Cisco DNA subscriptions can be ordered in two ways:

Option 1: Order Cisco DNA Subscription and hardware with a single SKU

or

Option 2: Order Cisco DNA Subscription and hardware separately

1.     Configure the hardware and

2.     Order the Cisco DNA subscriptions separately using L-DNA-C8000V

Option 1: Order Cisco DNA subscription and hardware with a Single SKU

Use the Product ID C8200-UCPE-1N8 (as shown in table 1) to configure both hardware and Cisco DNA subscriptions together.

Step 1. Configure hardware

The Cisco Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE consists of one chassis which offers 8 LAN ports, 6 WAN ports, with one 8 core Intel processer for hosting multiple VNF on NFVIS. Use the following guidelines to configure the hardware chassis as necessary with supported options for DRAM, Disk drives, NIM and PIM.

A. Choose the software operating system

The Catalyst 8200 edge uCPE platforms include a Cisco unified C8000V Software image, which supports Cisco IOS XE based traditional deployments and IOS XE SD-WAN deployments in a single binary image. The minimum version supported for all the Catalyst 8200 edge uCPE is Cisco Unified IOS XE Release 17.4.1. The software image product ID (PID) nomenclature, explained in Figure 2, can help you understand what to order based on your requirements.

B. Choose the NFVIS version

It is mandatory to choose the NFVIS hypervisor layer, with every 8200 uCPE. Currently NFVIS version 4.6 is selected by default.

C. Choose the system memory and storage

DRAM – The Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE platforms ship with a default 16 GB DRAM, with an option to downgrade to 8 GB on a single DIMM slot. You can also upgrade to 32 GB or 64 GB (2 * 32GB) by choosing single DIMM slot or 2 DIMM slots respectively. Table 2 outlines the DRAM options.

Option 2: Order Cisco DNA subscription and hardware separately

Order hardware system and Cisco DNA subscription separately i.e. order hardware system through SKU: C8200-UCPE-1N8 and later order Cisco DNA subscriptions separately through SKU: L-DNA-C8000V.

Step 1. Order hardware system

To order hardware platform, follow all the steps mentioned in Option 1, except selection of the Cisco DNA subscription (step 1).

Figure 5: provides an overview of ordering the hardware system and Cisco DNA subscription separately

Step 2. Order Cisco DNA subscriptions

The Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE requires a mandatory Cisco DNA subscription license. Cisco DNA subscription licenses are common across SD-WAN and traditional routing deployments, giving customers flexibility to consume the latest technology, either in the cloud or on-premises. All Cisco DNA subscription tiers require a Smart Account/Virtual Account (SA/VA).

Cisco DNA for SD-WAN and Routing subscription licenses include embedded SWSS support, as well as Success Tracks and Solution Support. These services provide coverage ONLY for the subscription functionality (Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Analytics, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Validator, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controller, Cisco Umbrella SIG Essentials, etc.) enabled by the Cisco DNA Subscription (Cisco DNA Essentials and Advantage). These services DO NOT cover the Network Stack.

Use the part number mentioned in Table 7 to order subscription licenses for the Cisco Catalyst C8000V hosted on the Catalyst 8200 Edge uCPE.

For a more detailed overview on Cisco Licensing, go to cisco.com/go/licensingguide.

Working with L-DNA-C8000V

Ordering the Cisco DNA subscription license using L-DNA-C8000V can be completed in four simple steps:

A.   Platform Selection.

B.   Select the Software Mode (management mode).

C.   Choose the Cisco DNA subscription SKU (e.g., DNA-C-T2-A-3Y).

D.   Export compliance expansion (C8000V-HSEC).

A. Platform selection

Select your preferred platform. Also order the required Cisco DNA subscription license that meets your needs, as shown in the following screenshot.

*ENCS5400-PF Platform is recommended for up to 1Gbps aggregate throughput.
**C8200-UCPE-PF Platform is recommended for up to 500Mbps aggregate throughput.

Note:      A Tier 1 bandwidth license provides entitlement for 400 aggregate crypto throughput with HSEC. However, one-way encrypted traffic must be less than 250M. For instance, 250Mbps download and 150Mbps upload would work but 300Mbps download and 100Mbps upload would fail.

D. Export compliance expansion (C8000V-HSEC)

When you choose a Cisco DNA subscription license greater than or equal to 250M, the C8000V-HSEC is auto expanded. This is not a HSEC license by itself; rather, it entitles customer for a HSEC license.
