Cisco announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Supervisor Engine V-10GE and Select Line Cards. The last day to order the affected product(s) is October 19, 2012. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product(s). Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement. For customers with active and paid service and support contracts, support will be available until the termination date of the contract, even if this date exceeds the Last Date of Support shown in Table 1.
Three months after the end-of-life announcement date, the price of the Cisco 4500E Series Supervisor Engine and line cards listed in this announcement may increase 15 percent in order to accommodate the fluctuating component costs for these products. The replacement supervisor engines and line cards are better than the end-of-sale products, and their prices are equivalent or lower.

Product Migration Options
Customers are encouraged to migrate from the Cisco 4500E Series Supervisor Engine V-10GE to the Cisco 4500E Series Supervisor Engine 7-E or 7L-E. Supervisor Engines 7-E and 7L-E provide unprecedented 848 Gbps and 520 Gbps system performance with 48 Gbps per slot to every line card. Supervisor Engines 7-E and 7L-E also support borderless network services, including Flexible Netflow (FNF), that are not supported on the Supervisor Engine V-10GE.

The Cisco 4500 data line card WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 can be replaced by the WS-X4748-RJ45-E or WS-X4648-RJ45-E line card.
The Cisco 4500 PoE line cards WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V, and WS-X4648-RJ45V-E are replaced by WS-X4748-UPOE+E UPOE (up to 60 watts) or WS-X4648-RJ45V+E PoEP (up to 30 watts) line cards.
The WS-X4748-UPOE+E and WS-X4748-RJ45-E line cards support 48 Gbps per slot, whereas the WS-X4548-GB-RJ45, and WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V, and are limited to 6 Gbps per slot. The Cisco 4500E Series line card type 4748 is compatible with all 4500E Series chassis with 7-E and 7L-E Supervisor Engines.
Customers also have the option to migrate to WS-X4648-RJ45-E or WS-X4648-RJ45V+E line cards that offer 24 Gbps per slot. The Cisco 4500E Series line card type 4648 is compatible with all 4500E Series chassis with all the supported Supervisor Engines, including 7-E, 7L-E, 6-E, and 6L-E.
