PRODUCT BULLETIN NO. 2612

Cisco Systems ® announces the end of sale and end-of-life dates of the Cisco ® Catalyst ® 4000 Series hardware accessories, and the Cisco IOS ® Software Release 12.1(13)EW on the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series switches. The last day to order the products is May 3, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until May 3, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series accessories and products. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.

Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series customers are encouraged to migrate to the Catalyst 4500 Series switches, providing increased Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and enhanced features for quality of service (QoS), high availability, and security. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(13)EW customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)EW or later releases, which support additional hardware and software features.

End-of-life announcement date	The date the document that announces the end of sale and end of life of a product is distributed to the general public.	November 3, 2004
End-of-sale date	The last date to order the product through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms. The product is no longer for sale after this date.	May 3, 2005
Last shipment date	The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead-time.	August 3, 2005
End of software maintenance releases date	The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.	May 3, 2006
End of service contract renewal date	The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.	May 3, 2009
Last date of support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	May 3, 2010

The recommended replacement for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(13)EW on the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series switches is Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)EW or later (Table 3).
