Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco Catalyst OS Release 8.x and the entire Cisco Catalyst OS. Cisco will not have any Cisco Catalyst OS development after 8.x release train. The last day to order the Cisco Catalyst OS Release 8.x is January 29, 2008. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Catalyst OS Release 8.x. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Product Migration Options

The recommended replacement for the Cisco Catalyst OS 8.x is Cisco IOS release 12.2SX. Table 3 provides a migration recommendation for the existing the Supervisor Engines and Catalyst OS configurations. Migrating to the latest Supervisor Engines with Cisco IOS software provides significant technology and operational management benefits including:

• Superior performance of up to 400Mpps with Supervisor Engine 720 and Distributed Forwarding technology.

• Hardware-based high performance services such as IPv6, MPLS VPN, EoMPLS, NAT and Control Plane Policing.

• Cisco IOS software modularity with fault containment, stateful process restart and Subsystem In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) that boosts operational efficiency, minimizes downtime and significantly reduces code certification.

• High-performance hardware-accelerated Stateful Application Intelligence and Deep Packet Inspection security with Supervisor Engine 32 PISA.

• Enhanced operational manageability with Embedded Event Manager (EEM), Cisco Call Home, multicast netflow, IP SLA and LLDP and LLDP-MED.
