Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco Aironet 40-bit WEP Products Base Station and Jump Start Kit. The last day to order the Cisco Aironet 40-bit WEP Products Base Station and Jump Start Kit is September 3, 2001. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Aironet 40-bit WEP Products Base Station and Jump Start Kit. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Cisco Systems is committed to providing customers with the highest level of security available. Consistent with this, we are discontinuing all 40-bit encrypted products. Because our products are classified by the United States Department of Commerce as being "retail" products, Cisco does not differentiate between 40- and 128-bit encrypted products. Therefore, Cisco holds no export limitations on 128-bit encrypted products that are not equally applicable to 40-bit encrypted products.

Product Migration Options
Cisco Aironet 340 Series Products
In most cases the Cisco Aironet
® 350 Series represents a superset of hardware and software functionality relative to the Cisco Aironet 340 Series. To simplify ordering and decrease the SKU count supported by both Cisco and its distribution and reseller partners, Cisco is discontinuing many products in the Cisco Aironet 340 Series family. In most countries, these discontinued products have direct replacements in the Cisco Aironet 350 Series family. However, in the countries Argentina, Chile, China, Cyprus, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Taiwan and Thailand, direct replacement 350 series products have not yet been certified. There is no impact on the functionality of the Cisco Aironet product family that results from this discontinuation. Products specifically excluded from this discontinuation are the Cisco Aironet 340 Series Bridge (AIR-BR342), Cisco Aironet 340 Series Access Points (AIR-AP342E2C and AIR-AP342E2R) and the Cisco Aironet 340 Series Ethernet Uplink Base Station (AIR-BSE342).
Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, go to:
http://www.cisco.com/go/tradein/. The Cisco TMP application requires all users to have a Cisco.com user ID.
Customers may be able to continue to purchase the end-of-sale product through Cisco's Authorized Refurbished Equipment program. Refurbished units of the end-of-sale product are available in limited supply for sale in certain countries on a first-come, first-served basis. For information about the refurbished equipment program, go to: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/ordering/or6/or17/order_refurbished_equipment_program_description.html
