Steps for conversion of Catalyst 9100 CAPWAP access points to Catalyst Embedded Wireless Controller access points
Ensure the Catalyst 9100 CAPWAP AP has AireOS 8.10 or Cisco® IOS XE Release 16.12.1s code prior to converting to an EWC AP. Images are available on cisco.com.
Download the EWC AP software zip file: C9800-APuniversalk9<version>.zip from cisco.com to a TFTP server. Then unzip the file.
Conversion to EWC AP requires two files to be downloaded on the Catalyst 9100 AP: an AP image and a controller image. Files are available in the unzipped folder.
Note: ap1g7 is the AP image for Catalyst 9115 and 9120, ap1g6 is for 9117, ap1g8 is for 9105i and ap1g6a is for 9130. The controller image file is C9800-AP-iosxe-wlc.bin and it is the same for all Catalyst 9100 Access Points.
From the AP prompt, execute the following CLI. After the download, the Catalyst 9100 access point will reboot. After it comes up, it will run the controller.
