The Cisco UCS Virtual Interface Card 1385 improves flexibility, performance, and bandwidth for Cisco UCS C-Series Rack Servers. It offers dual-port Enhanced Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP+) 40 Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) in a half-height PCI Express (PCIe) adapter.
The 1385 card works with Cisco Nexus 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) and 10 GE switches for high-performance applications. The 1385 implements the Cisco Data Center Virtual Machine Fabric Extender (VM-FEX), which unifies virtual and physical networking into a single infrastructure. The extender provides virtual-machine visibility from the physical network and a consistent network operations model for physical and virtual servers.
In virtualized environments, this highly configurable and self-virtualized adapter provides integrated LAN interfaces on Cisco UCS C-Series Rack Servers. Additional features and capabilities include the following.
Cisco User-Space NIC (usNIC)
The Cisco usNIC is a low-latency interface on top of the 1385. The interface consists of a set of software libraries that make it possible for a data path to bypass the kernel.
SingleConnect
Cisco SingleConnect technology is an easy, intelligent, and efficient way to connect and manage computing in the data center. It unifies LAN, SAN, and systems management into one simplified link for rack servers, blade servers, and virtual machines.
Higher Performance
This adapter supports more than 256 PCI Express (PCIe) virtual devices, either virtual network interface cards (vNICs) or virtual host bus adapters (vHBAs), with high I/O operations per second (IOPS), support for lossless Ethernet, and 80 Gbps to servers.
More Bandwidth
The x16 PCIe Gen3 interface helps assure optimal bandwidth to the host for network-intensive applications, with a redundant path to the fabric interconnect.
Rack-Optimized Form Factor
The half-height design reserves full-height slots in servers for Cisco certified third-party adapters.
Advanced features
Third-generation virtual interface cards support advanced features such as Netflow for network traffic modeling, and VMware NetQueue for balancing and shaping virtual machine traffic loads. Accelerated Receive Flow Steering improves packet processing efficiency. Microsoft SMB Direct accelerates storage bandwidth while reducing CPU overhead.
The 1385 card offers support for Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux, VMware vSphere, and Citrix XenServer.
