A vulnerability in the HTTPS inspection engine of the Cisco ASA Content Security and Control Security Services Module (CSC-SSM) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause exhaustion of available memory, system instability, and a reload of the affected system.
The vulnerability is due to improper handling of HTTPS packets transiting through the affected system. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending HTTPS packets through the affected system at high rate.
Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. Workarounds that mitigate this vulnerability are not available.

Vulnerable Products
Cisco ASA 5500 Series CSC-SSM devices running any 6.6 software release prior to 6.6.1164.0 or without hotfix 1157 are affected by this vulnerability.
Cisco ASA 5500 Series CSC-SSM devices running software version 6.1, 6.2, or 6.3 are not affected by this vulnerability because these software versions do not support HTTPS inspection.

Cisco ASA Software is not affected by this vulnerability.
No other Cisco products are currently known to be affected by this vulnerability.

When considering software upgrades, customers are advised to consult the Cisco Security Advisories and Responses archive at http://www.cisco.com/go/psirt and review subsequent advisories to determine exposure and a complete upgrade solution.
In all cases, customers should ensure that the devices to be upgraded contain sufficient memory and confirm that current hardware and software configurations will continue to be supported properly by the new release. If the information is not clear, customers are advised to contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or their contracted maintenance providers.
Cisco ASA 5500 Series CSC-SSM software versions 6.6.1164.0 and later include the fix for this vulnerability. Alternatively, affected customers can install hotfix 1157, which is available by contacting Cisco TAC.
