On a Cisco 7200 Router, when the mueslix serial port adapters are used with a high bandwith port adapter (like ATM) in the same PCI bus, the serial interface may stop functioning when NVRAM is accessed. This can occur when the interface traffic rates reach approximately 50 percent on the serial and high bandwidth interfaces.
Some possible triggers to the problem are:
Executing a write memory command when the serial interface is passing traffic.
The use certain commands like show version when serial interface is passing traffic.
The problem as described above may occur on port adapters that have a Mueslix ASIC on them. The port adapters listed in the Products Affected section have this Mueslix ASIC. This problem only occurs on the port adapters that are listed in the Affected Products section and does not affect all port adapters. Furthermore, this problem can occur with the NPE-200, NPE-225, NPE-300, NPE-400 and NSE-1 processors on the Cisco 7200VXR Series routers.
If a write memory command, or other command such as show version is executed, these failure symptoms occur:
Mueslix error messages displayed in the logs.
MUESLIX-1-STARTFAIL/ MUESLIX-1-STOPFAIL MUESLIX-1-HALT
The interface may flap or go down completely.
The solution to the problem is to upgrade Cisco IOS® Software to one of the releases in the as described in the attached table.
Note: If the problem occurs on the NPE-300, use DDTS CSCdt71082 for resolution. If the problem occurs on the NPE-200, NPE-225, NPE-400 or NSE-1, refer to the DDTS associated with the port adapter installed in the system for resolution.
