When running software Release 2.3.5 and 4.1.4 with the TCC in Slot 11 (15454 and 15454E) or the XTC in Slot 6 (15327) as the active shelf controller card, the Network Element (NE) will not send SNMP traps to the provisioned trap destinations. When the TCC in Slot 7 or the XTC in Slot 5 is the active shelf controller card, SNMP traps will be sent. This will only occur in software Releases 2.3.5 and 4.1.4.
This issue occurs as a result of a communication failure between the alarm subsystem and the SNMP subsystem within the TCC/XTC card, due to the use of an inappropriate network interface for transmitting intra-card UDP packets. While SNMP traps will not be transmitted in this situation, SNMP gets will continue to function normally.
SNMP traps are not transmitted by the NE. This can be checked via CTC or TL1, by cross-referencing the timestamp of the last alarm trap received by an alarm management Operations Support System (OSS) with the timestamp of the newest alarm reported by the NE.
With Releases 2.3.5 and 4.1.4, this issue can occur whenever the TCC in Slot 11 or the XTC in Slot 6 is active. To avoid the issue in those releases, make the TCC in Slot 7 or XTC in Slot 5 active. This issue was resolved in Releases 4.1.5 and 4.1.6, which was available September 30, 2004. Release 4.1.6 contains all Release 4.1.4 software fixes, plus the fix for CSCee55443.
Note: Release 4.1.6 Does not include fixes first implented in Release 4.1.5. To upgrade to the release that contains the most fixes, use Release 4.1.5. To upgrade to a release that is compatible with CTM Release 4.7.1 and contains the fix for CSCee55443, use Release 4.1.6.
For a detailed list of resolutions integrated in both 4.1.5 and 4.1.6 please refer to the following release notes available on Cisco.com.
