The MDS 9000, Nexus 5000, Nexus 7000 and UCS 6100 families of products will be switching to a new block of Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI). As a result of this change, customers may experience problems with Cisco Fabric Manager (FM).
This Field Notice applies to units manufactured after February 09, 2010.
The new OUIs will be 00-05-9b and 00-05-73. The first 3 bytes of the MAC address are the OUI.
For information on determining whether a unit is affected, please see the Problem Symptom section.
The Cisco FMS software is currently dependent upon the OUI of the device MAC address to recognize equipment as a Cisco device. The current block of addresses being used for MDS 9000, Nexus 5000, Nexus 7000 and UCS 6100 product families is about to be exhausted.
Cisco Fabric Manager does not recognize a switch with an OUI of 00-05-73 or 00-05-9b as a Cisco switch.
Switches with a new OUI have these issues:
The first three bytes of the MAC address are the OUI.
To identify whether your hardware is affected, refer to this command table:
MDS 9000 | Command | show sprom backplane 1 | include "MAC Address" |
Sample Output | switch# show sprom backplane 1 | include "MAC Address" |
|
Nexus 5000 | Command | show sprom backplane | include "MAC Address" |
Sample Output | switch# show sprom backplane | include "MAC Address" |
|
UCS 6100 | Commands |
|
Sample Output | BurnIn-A# connect nxos |
For MDS 9000, Nexus 5000 and UCS 6100 products that utilize Cisco Fabric Manager, it is necessary to upgrade Fabric Manager software to Fabric Manager Software version 5.0(1a) or Fabric Manager software maintenance version 4.2(3a) or 3.3(4b).
To follow the bug ID link below and see detailed bug information, you must be a registered customer and you must be logged in.
