Incorrect programming on ONS-SE-Z1 causes the Mismatched Equipment Attributes (MEA) alarm and traffic impacts when ONS-SE-Z1 units are configured for multirate mode in 15600, 15454-MRC-2.5G4=, 15454-MRC-4=, 15454-MRC-I-12=, 15454-MRC-I-4= line cards.
ONS-SE-Z1, which shipped from June 6th 2013 to Dec 31st 2013, has an incorrect Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) value that does not allow the multirate mode to configure.
All Optics (10-1971-04) shipped after Jan 1st 2014 are good.
If ONS-SE-Z1 (Part number 10-1971-03) is used with the listed cards in multirate mode, it triggers an MEA alarm, and traffic does not flow. However, the problem is not encountered in single rate mode.
ONS-SE-Z1 works fine in single rate mode. However, if the user changes to multirate mode with the listed cards, a traffic impact is observed. Customers must verify the impacted units with the procedure provided in the How to Identify Affected Products section.
If an ONS-SE-Z1 fails due to the issue described in this field notice, Cisco requests that customers follow the Cisco Return Material Authorization (RMA) process in order to request replacement of the failed units.
ONS-SE-Z1 Optics can be identified in two ways:
