CSCuw22050	CSCuw22050 Switch reports Power device detected when non device is connected

Problem Description

Some Catalyst 3850 switches might log power device detected/removed log messages when there is no device connected. The logs might appear continuously.

Cisco has determined there is no functionality impact due to this issue.

Devices will continue to operate correctly when connected to the switch ports.

Background

Products which can be affected by this issue are listed in the "Products Affected" field AND serial number range given below:

• FCW1927xxxx through FCW1939xxxx
• FOC1927xxxx through FOC1939xxxx

See the "How To Identify Affected Products" section in order to determine if a particular switch is affected. This issue is seen across all supported software releases.

Problem Symptom

These messages might be seen continuously on the screen.

Multiple downlink ports on PoE/uPoE switches in the network might log these messages on the console or buffer based on the customer configuration.

*Sep 10 20:35:46.761: %ILPOWER-7-DETECT: Interface Gi1/0/4: Power Device detected: Cisco PD

*Sep 10 20:35:47.920: %ILPOWER-5-POWER_GRANTED: Interface Gi1/0/4: Power granted

*Sep 10 20:35:48.085: %ILPOWER-5-IEEE_DISCONNECT: Interface Gi1/0/4: PD removed

Workaround/Solution

Option 1

Disable logging for level 5 and higher.

switch(config)#logging console 4

Switch(config)#logging buffered 4

Switch(config)#logging monitor 4

Switch(config)#logging host 4

Option 2

Disable inline-power log events.

Switch(config)# interface range Gigabit/0/1 - <#of ports>,

Gigabit/0/1 - <#of ports>, ... Switch(config)#no logging event power-inline-status

Option 1 OR 2 can be used pending a permanent fix in a future software release.

Cisco IOS 3.6.4E IOS XE and 3.7.3E IOS XE planned for release in January 2016

How To Identify Affected Products

Physical Inspection

The serial number is in the range of FCW1927xxxx through FCW1939xxxx.
The serial number is in the range of FOC1927xxxx through FOC1939xxxx.

Show Command

Enter the show version command and look up the "System Serial Number".

The System Serial Number is in the range FCW1927xxxx through FCW1939xxxx or FOC1927xxxx through FOC1939xxxx.
