Problem Description

Some ASA 5506W-X security appliances were shipped with non-production software. As a result, some ASA 5506W-X units might not meet local wireless regulatory standards.

Background

All ASA 5506W-X security appliances that shipped from April 18, 2015 through November 11, 2015 contain non-production software. As a result, these ASA 5506W-X units might not meet local wireless regulatory standards. Affected units are not field upgradable and hardware replacement is required.

Problem Symptom

Affected ASA 5506W-X security appliances might not meet local wireless regulatory standards.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco recommends replacement of the affected ASA 5506W-X security appliances.

How To Identify Affected Products

All ASA 5506W-X security appliances that shipped from April 18, 2015 through November 11, 2015 are affected.

The chassis serial number can be obtained from the CLI or through visual inspection of the ASA 5506W-X security appliance.

  • CLI - Enter the show inventory command in order to obtain the chassis serial number of the appliance: 
    asa> show inventory

	Name: "Chassis", DESCR: "ASA 5506-X with WiFi, SW, 8GE Data, 1GE Mgmt, AC"

	PID: ASA5506W, VID: V01, SN: JMX1234ABCD
  • Visual inspection of the ASA 5506W-X appliance - The chassis serial number label is located on the bottom surface of the appliance. The chassis serial number can also be referenced on the sales order documentation.

Use the Cisco Serial Number Validation Tool in order to validate your ASA 5506W-X security appliance serial number(s).
