Cisco Engineering has identified a software issue that involves ICMPv4 packet processing microcode of Cisco Industrial Ethernet 4000 and 5000 Series Switches. The presence of this defect could negatively impact the operation and reliability of the network under normal working conditions. Additionally, the defect could allow for packet corruption which affects traffic to the device and traffic that transits the device.
Only those products noted in the Products Affected section that run one of the noted software versions are impacted and should be upgraded immediately. Effective June 1st the affected software versions are deferred and customers are no longer able to download them from Cisco.com.
All impacted software releases listed have been deferred and free software release updates that resolve this issue have been posted on Cisco.com. These are available to all customers regardless of contract status. Cisco.com guest access will be required in order to download the images.
While this defect could negatively impact the operation and reliability of the network under normal working conditions, it is also included in a medium-level Security Advisory disclosed by the Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT).
Switches that run releases called out in the Products Affected section can negatively impact the operation, reliability, and security of the network.
Customers are advised to obtain the software release updates that resolve this issue and upgrade your switches to one of the recommended releases mentioned in this table, or any subsequent release:
