CSCvm73451 | Some BBU's are unable to charge |
A limited number of CGR-BATT-4AHs (Battery Backup Units (BBUs)) have been found to not recharge.
Some BBUs from Cisco failed to recharge. Cisco identified the manufacturing time period as well as the serial numbers of the affected units. The manufacturing date range for which the issue occurred is 2017-07-11 to 2018-08-15.
If AC power has been applied to the CGR for 72 hours and one or more CGR-BATT-4AHs are not at least 85% charged, then the unit(s) is not considered fully charged and needs to be replaced.
If the impacted CGR-BATT-4AH is not replaced, the CGR might not remain powered OR the Battery Backup time might be significantly reduced if there is a power outage.
A CGR-BATT-4AH that is identified as affected in the How To Identify Affected Products section can be replaced through the normal Return Material Authorization (RMA) process.
Use the instructions in this section in order to determine whether you have affected batteries. Complete the identification process and use the Serial Number Validation Tool as the final verification.
Cisco IOS® Identification
In order to validate the BBU charge status, enter the show platform battery details command. For ChargeStatus, if a battery shows "0xC011", that particular BBU is impacted and should be replaced.
Connected Grid Operating System (CGOS) Identification
In order to validate the BBU charge status, enter the show env power … command as shown in these examples. For BBU Charging Status, if a battery shows "c011", that particular BBU is impacted and should be replaced.
Field Network Director (FND) Identification
In order to validate the BBU charge status, complete these steps. When you proceed to the "Device View", if a "Batt x Charge" column shows "disabled", that particular BBU is impacted and should be replaced.
A CGR-BATT-4AH that exhibits the described symptoms (Cisco IOS, CGOS, or FND examples) can be replaced through the normal RMA process.
Before you replace a CGR-BATT-4AH, validate whether the unit is affected with the Serial Number Validation Tool.
