CSCvn11904 | GDDR5 revB support |
Certain Network Convergence System (NCS) 5500 products, as mentioned in the Products Affected section, are not compatible with Cisco IOS® XR Software Releases earlier than 6.5.2/6.6.1 or without the mandatory Software Maintenance Upgrade (SMU). These routers/line cards might fail to boot without the required software release version or mandatory SMU.
A new hardware version for the products will be introduced to address the End of Life (EoL) of an existing memory component. This version will be supported by Cisco IOS XR Software Release 6.5.2, 6.6.1, or later only.
For software releases earlier than 6.5.2/6.6.1, a mandatory reload SMU needs to be installed.
This error log will be observed when the NCS 5500 product boots with a non-compatible Cisco IOS XR Software Release or without the mandatory SMU.
fia_driver[<IGNORE>]: %FABRIC-FIA_DRVR-3-ASIC_INIT_FAILURE : [<IGNORE>] : Asic Initialization failed due to:soc reset init failed, device <slice> with error 0xfffffffffffffffc(Invalid parameter)
The NCS 5500 products, which run on Cisco IOS XR Software Releases earlier than 6.5.2/6.6.1, require one of these options in order to support the new hardware version.
Option 1. Install the SMUs
Cisco IOS XR Software Release | Required SMU File Names |
---|---|
6.3.15 | ncs5500-6.3.15.CSCvn11904.tar |
6.3.2 | ncs5500-6.3.2.CSCvn11904.tar |
6.3.3 | ncs5500-6.3.3.CSCvn11904.tar |
6.2.3 | ncs5500-6.2.3.CSCvn11904.tar |
6.1.3 | ncs5500-6.1.3.CSCvn11904.tar |
6.1.4 | ncs5500-6.1.4.CSCvn11904.tar |
Option 2. Upgrade
Cisco IOS XR software can be migrated to one of the latest Cisco IOS XR Software Releases: 6.5.2, 6.6.1, or later. These releases do not require any of the SMUs.
Refer to the NCS 5500 Software Download Page for the latest software releases.
Refer to this table in order to find the affected Version ID (VID). The VID can be identified through the CLI or physically on the line card/router label.
