Apple has announced a requirement that starting April 2020, all new apps and app updates on the Apple app store need to be built with the latest iOS 13 software development kit (SDK). See Submit Your iOS Apps to the App Store for more information.
When building with the new iOS 13 SDK, an application is allowed to use VoIP type push notifications only for delivering a new call. All other use cases are required to use regular type push notifications.
In order to comply with these requirements, there are changes being delivered with upcoming BroadWorks patches and mobile client releases. The BroadWorks patches are required to be deployed before deploying the SDK 13 compliant iOS client Release 3.9.12 or later. This applies to both UC-One Collaborate and UC-One SaaS.
Customers are required to plan accordingly and deploy the BroadWorks patches as soon as they are available. This will ensure compliance with the Apple requirement and ability to publish new mobile clients built with the IOS 13 SDK.
Note: As of the time of publishing this field notice, all BroadWorks patches are already available.
Apple has recently announced this update, Deadline for App Updates Has Been Extended. Per the new announcement: “… To accommodate developers who might need additional time to update their existing apps on the App Store, the deadline for adhering to the requirements below has been extended to June 30, 2020.”
Note that the extension applies only to app updates and not to newly published apps.
Note: This field notice was originally posted in the BroadSoft Xchange portal and has been moved over to Cisco.com as-is for historical purposes.
Apple's requirement for apps to be built with iOS 13 SDK is applicable to new apps and app updates published to the Apple app store. Existing already published apps are not affected.
Failure to deploy the BroadWorks patches in a timely manner will prevent customers from receiving bug fixes, as mobile client updates are dependent on the patches.
BroadWorks patches can now be downloaded through the Cisco Software Download Center after logging in with your Cisco.com (CCO) account.
The version of BroadWorks that is currently deployed as well as the patches currently activated can be checked by executing the get versions all
command from the CLI. More information on how to check the patch level can be found in the Cisco BroadWorks Maintenance Guide.

These BroadWorks patches are required in order to comply with the requirements.

BroadWorks patches:
iOS Mobile client releases that are compliant with the Apple requirement:
Existing mobile clients will be compatible with the BroadWorks patches, but after 2020-06-30 customers will be able to deploy only Release 3.9.12 or later with the aforementioned patches applied.
Versions earlier than Release 3.9.12 can be published on the store before 2020-06-30, but only as an upgrade to an existing published app.
Note: Customers on "EOM/End-of-Maintenance releases, Release 20 and earlier of BroadWorks" will be able to run the older clients, but will not be able to get client upgrades and bug fixes until they upgrade to a supported version of BroadWorks.
