CSCvw83994 | Newly installed EDRA-1-35 reported LASERTEMP-DEG alarm incorrectly |
A limited number of NCS2K-EDRA units, listed in the Products Affected section, might report an incorrect LASERTEMP-DEG alarm during turn-up/installation.
A limited number of Erbium Doped Raman Amplifier (EDRA) units might display this incorrect alarm due to a misconfiguration during manufacturing of the temperature degrade threshold value in the firmware of one of the product components. However, there is no functional impact in terms of laser/traffic functionality.
The impacted units will raise the LASERTEMP-DEG alarm after the first installation. An example of the error message is shown here:
In the short term, customers can proceed with turn-up/installation as there is no traffic impact due to the LASERTEMP-DEG.
If the unit raises a laser temperature failure alarm, also known as an EQPT FAIL alarm, then this could be considered a reliable indicator of a real laser temperature degradation issue. Contact the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for troubleshooting and guidance.
A software fix will be added in a future release. Customers are advised to check Cisco bug ID CSCvw83994 for details of the software release.
The unit serial number thats starts with IFBxxxxxxxx might display this alarm. The serial number can be found on the bottom of the unit as shown in this image:
Also, if the unit is already installed and shows the problem symptom, the serial number of the unit can be found in Cisco Transport Controller (CTC).
Open CTC. Choose Node view > Inventory panel.
Look for the shelf slot of the EDRA unit and the Serial # column in order to identify the unit serial number.
An example is shown in this image:
This field notice provides the ability to determine if the serial number(s) of a device is impacted by this issue. In order to verify your serial number(s), enter it in the Serial Number Validation Tool.
